IN CONVERSATION WITH TOURIST ATH

The Athenian DJ visits REY Magazine and shares with us some of his favourite moments.

Tourist ATH is influenced by elements of nature and his travels around the world and he loves to combine the electronic music with all the above.

He has shared the decks with the most renowned artists of the electronic music scene like AME, Black Coffee, Stephan Bodzin, Fideles, BLOND:ISH, Echonomist, Agents Of Time, DJ Tennis, Brina Knauss and more.

Tell us a bit more about you. Where are you from originally? What are your hobbies and your interests?

I was born and raised in a village of about 150 inhabitants in the northwest of Greece. I always loved music, so after I turned 18, I decided to follow my dreams and be involved with it in every way possible. My goal was to be able to turn my hobby into a profession so that I could not only enjoy myself but also make others happy too.

As of my hobbies, I love waking up early in the morning, go to the gym and then following hours in the studio.

When was the first time you remember yourself being influenced by music?

That was definitely back in the nineties, when my father bought me my first cds. I remember listening to them at home at his high quality sound system, as he was a music lover too. That was something which has had a clear influence on me.

What inspires you most when it comes to music?

I would say Travelling, which is something I am very fond of.

Who is your favourite music artist?

One of my favourite artists is Dixon.

Your song ‘Keep On’ feat. Coco was quite a success back in 2021. Are we going to see new music from you soon?

This is something I have been working on very hard lately. So yes, we will release new tracks this summer!

Where has the name Tourist Ath came from? Tell us more about it.

If I could describe myself in one word that would definitely be "tourist"

Single and ready to mingle?

 Free :)

As we already know you are based in Athens. Where can we see you playing at during the season?

I have a residency at Zelus Athens, where I play 2 Saturdays per month and it really feels like home to me.

And what’s next?

I have achieved a lot so far but I never stop dreaming, as I believe that progress and self-development end when our dreams die.

The Queer 2022 Calendar by French artist & photographer Romain Berger

Romain Berger is a French artist and photographer who focus on the LGBTQ+ community for his artwork. He has seen his work published in European and US magazines, the SUM gallery in Vancouver has exhibited his work during the Queer Art Show, and he is now organising his new exhibition which will take place in his home country during Pride month.

‘‘Openly queer, I highlight, without modesty, a community often excluded and pointed out (gays, women, trans, drag queens...), trying to change mentalities at my humble level. This work allows me to talk about social and topical issues, but also to give a representation of the LGBTQ+ community on a background of ultra colourful, offbeat and erotic settings. I like to play with the codes of crypto-gay cinema and not leave the viewer indifferent’’ Romain noted.

The 33 years old artist has published a new 2022 calendar and he shares some of the pages of his latest project. A REY online exclusive:

'Childhood' Collage by Seigar

A REY exclusive Art feature editorial, created by SEIGAR. in Tenerife.

The artist mentions to REY,

“With this series, I wanted to play with the concept of childhood, using collage from fashion magazines and toys. As I am an intense person, always looking to experience the present, I seem to forget the past. There is not enough place in my mind for all the data, and that includes my childhood memories. That was the motif to create this photo-narrative, to connect with those years. The adult perspective places the pop icons in curious and weird situations testing darkness but also joy, some adventure, the supernatural, and even religion. In a previous series entitled Toxic, I used for the first time the collage technique, and that made me work with it in this new project. In the future, I am considering doing collage mixed with paints to explore other topics. Childhood has brought something new to my work, both in the form and the content.”

Artist’s Biography:

Seigar is a passionate travel, street, social documentary, conceptual and pop photographer based in Tenerife. He feels obsessed with pop culture that he shows in his series. He is a fetishist for reflections, saturated colors, curious finds, and religious icons. He also flirts with journalism and video. His main inspiration is traveling. His aim as an artist is to tell tales with his camera, creating a continuous storyline from his trips.

His most ambitious projects so far are his Plastic People, a study on anthropology and sociology that focuses on the humanization of the mannequins he finds in the shop windows all over the world, and his Tales of a City, an ongoing urban photo-narrative project taken in London. He is a philologist and also works as a secondary school teacher. He is a self-taught visual artist, though he has done a two years course in advanced photography and one in cinema and television. He has participated in several exhibitions and his works have been featured in many publications.

He has collaborated with different media such as VICE and WAG1. He writes for Dodho Magazine and for The Cultural about photography and pop culture, and for Memoir Mixtapes about music. Lately, he has experimented with video forms. His last interest is documenting identity. Recently, he received the Rafael Ramos García International Photography Award.

Theo-Mass Lexileictous: 'The Ice Age' Exhibition - Exclusive photojournal

Theo-Mass has presented his latest exhibition in Limassol, Cyprus and we were lucky enough to be at the opening -last Friday the 8th of November.

Eins gallery is pleased to present Theo-Mass Lexileictous’ solo exhibition entitled The Ice Age. This body of work is the consummation of three years of investigation into our distanced and complex relationship with the environment and nature, and the ephemeral, while questioning digital and physical fabrication processes to understand our evolving relationship to matter.

Theo-Mass’ work explores the boundaries between the digital and the existent, the relationship between the human and the machine, and its distinctive aesthetic, which focuses and experiments with the sensory experience of light, space and form. He works across a range of mediums, from sculpture, installation, photography to film, crossing boundaries between disciplines. Exploring the ever-changing nature of materiality and the meaning of substance in a Postdigital era, this work addresses these issues; however, unlike his previous works, it is removed from the technological and machine made.

‘The Ice Age’ presents 3 new performative sculptural hybrid objects which constantly evolve and change, an approach that generates a network of dynamic and unpredictable living situations that unfold in real-time.

Parts of the exhibition are still open until the 18th of November. Discover them around the old town of Limassol. Find out more online.

Salvador Dali meets Dánte: New campaign & collection

A surrealist trapped in reality, a painter on a quest to find his inspiration, and an ever current

message: #youcanchangetheworld.

Following its first fashion film, “Anamnesis”, the men’s brand Dánte makes a comeback with

“Lobster”, a film praising introspection and the constant, very personal, search for one’s true self.

Inspiration is found in Salvador Dali, one of the most eccentric and controversial personalities of

contemporary art and surrealism.

After Nikos Psarras, the torch is passed to Stavros Svigkos, the talented actor who portrays a

contemporary version of Dali, trying to find his lobster, the inspiration he needs to express his very

own truth without limitations or restraints.

Inspirer of the idea and founder of the brand, Antonis Papastavrou, places the Spanish painter’s

moustache-symbol, which in itself was a statement against the stereotypes of the hyperrealists of

Dali’s time, in the skilled hands of Kontstantinos Dekoumés who magnificently brings to life the

artistic and personal impasse in which the artist found himself, as well as the symbolic association it

had with the inspiration for his famous painting, the lobster..

Prada SS18 Campaign

Prada unveiled its SS18 campaign, Photographed by Willy Vanderperre.

The images feature the drawings created by artists Ollie Schrauwen and James Jean featured both in the collection as well as the PRADA runway showspace.

PRADA-01-620x421.jpg

Drawing inspiration not only from the aesthetics of comic books but their ideology, the overriding sense is of youth, energy, heroism – a fresh perspective on both the artwork, and the Prada Spring/Summer 2018 collection. The artwork backdrops, drawn from the Prada showspace on Via Fogazzaro, accentuate the blurred line between actuality and fantasy – real-life models seem to become comic-book characters; perspectives are challenged, and ultimately exploded. The isolated landscape of each image evokes an individual scenario, a specific storyline; combined, the different images add up to a reflection on the multi-faceted world of today. The world of Prada. – from PRADA
